Introduction to the Radiant Light Camp Hidden Word Day 1
Preparation for the Introduction
Materials needed for making the Lamp Pouches (one for each member of the camp):
- Star Material to make the pouches
- Felt material – black, pink, purple, white (other colors may be used)
- Pattern for the lamp
- Fabric glue to put the lamps on the pouches
- Sewing machine to assemble the pouches and thread
- Glittery paper to glue to the flame of the lamp
The pouches should be large enough to hold a regular sized or business size envelope. The material used for this camp session was blue material with sparkly silver stars on the front and a galaxy material for the backing.
Materials needed for the devotional table:
- Dazzling firecracker like material for the table
- Candle – circle of friends with arms around each other
- Lamp pouches
- Large stand for the Hidden Word
- Small stand for the 1st sentence of the Hidden Word
- Matches or lighter for the candle
- Small container of sand to hold the blown out match
The entire Hidden Word is printed out in large size font to make it easy to read from a distance. It is then mounted on a fairly stiff piece of decorative card stock and embellished simply as not to distract from the text.
O SON OF BEING!
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee. Get thou from it thy radiance and seek none other than Me. For I have created thee rich and have bountifully shed My favor upon thee.
The 1st line of the Hidden Word “O Son of Being! Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee.” is also printed out in larger font and is also mounted on a piece of heavy card stock.
O SON OF BEING!
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee.
The pouch will contain a copy of the entire quote. An envelope will also be placed in the pouch with the first sentence of the quote cut up into individual words.
O SON OF BEING!
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee.
On the second day of camp, an envelope with the second sentence cut up into individual words will be added to the pouch, and on the third day of camp, an envelope with the third sentence cut up into individual words will be added to the pouch. The fourth day of the camp, all three envelopes will be in the pouch, and the camp participants can try to assemble the Hidden Word or practice supplying the missing words by turning over several words and reciting the sentences. Other activities can be developed and tried using the cut up Hidden Word pieces.
Introduction~Day 1
The Hidden Word we will be studying during the camp is the Arabic Hidden Word #11 revealed by Baha’u’llah.
Would someone please read the entire Hidden Word for us?
For the first day of camp, we will be discussing and doing activities that will be centered around the first sentence of the Hidden Word.
O SON OF BEING!
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee.
(Ask another member of the camp to read the first sentence.)
On the devotional table, you will find radiant light bags that contain the Hidden Word. There is an envelope inside that has the first sentence cut up so that you can practice memorizing it during your free time at camp or in the evening. There is also a card with the entire Hidden Word on it so you can check yourself.
Rating for Day 1 – Introduction and Radiant Light Pouches
The students were excited about the pouches and especially liked the stars and constellations on the bags. The students were also very enthusiastic when they learned that the pouches were theirs to take home at the end of the camp. The puzzle activity was also well received, and they spent about 10 minutes working on assembling the pieces of the Hidden Word and trying to memorize the first line. Rating 2.6
